The Protomen
Last last year my boyfriend and his roommate introduced me to a band called The Protomen. I instantly fell in love. If I had to describe them in a few words, it would be Megaman Rock Opera. I saw them when they played at the Beat Kitchen in April (with the wonderfully talented hometown-heroes, the Super 8bit Bros.) I just saw them again on July 28 at Subterranean (again, with the talented Super 8bit Bros. AND The Adventures of Duane and BrandO). Both concerts were packed with nerds and geeks of all types, dripping with sweat and enthusiasm.
These were without question the best concerts I have ever been to.
I love these bands not just for their music, but because they are still in touch with their fans. And no, I don’t mean through a roadie via the bands’ blog pages. At one point I had The Gunslinger standing next to me in the crowd jamming to the Super 8bit Bros. I met and hugged The Reanimator after the show. (Thanks for signing the drumstick!) And I personally shook hands with Commander and handed him my card with the address of this blog.
Shooting shows can be extremely demanding, especially shows like these where I have no press pass, there is no camera pit, and the temperature reached 90F before the opening band got on stage. Bands like The Protomen make it worth it.
